Description
Composition, mandora/lute guitar: Nao Sogabe
Phrygia was the ancient name for a region in what is now Turkey. It was a time of numerous myths and epics that have been passed down to this day. In music, we see the name today as the Phrygian church mode.
I wrote a piece of music in this mode and play the lute from the 19th century. (The oud in this era has almost the same construction.) I use a Turkish risha (plectrum). We can no longer know what the music of Phrygia sounded like, and most likely this music has nothing to do with their music. Nevertheless, I hope that this music helps the listener to take an imaginary journey into a foreign world.
